PeaceRep is pleased to share a new tool for constitution-building: The Database on Constitution‑Building Processes
in Fragile Settings.Created by International IDEA with the support of PeaceRep, the database is a critical tool to understand how and why process-design choices are made, and what their impact could be. It allows users to compare data across different constitution-building processes, countries and years.
Unlocking Insights into Constitution-Building in Fragile Settings
A new resource for researchers and practitioners working in challenging environments has been launched: the Database on Constitution-Building Processes in Fragile Settings. This comprehensive database provides detailed insights into how constitutional processes unfold in challenging contexts, offering valuable information for those involved in similar efforts today.
Created by International IDEA with the support of PeaceRep, the database covers constitution-building processes from the 1990s to the present. The database tracks eight key stages, from initial discussions to the final implementation. With over 200 data points for each case, users can delve into and compare the complex dynamics of constitution-building in highly fragile settings.
Key features of the database include strategic insights into major constitution-building efforts, easy access to specific stages of the process, and free global access to data that supports informed decision-making and research. Users can interact with the data through a double-coding methodology, explore via interactive pinboards, and download information in various formats.
Building on an earlier dataset (1975-2003), this tool provides a critical foundation for understanding the impact of design choices in constitution-building. Explore the database and learn more at https://pccbp.constitutionnet.org.
