The authors examine the historical context of ASEAN engagement with Myanmar, ASEAN engagement in the post-coup crisis with the Five Point Consensus (FPC), and the challenges ASEAN faces in implementing the FPC.

The policy brief outlines next steps for ASEAN, under Indonesia’s leadership, to take a fresh approach to the FPC and address the Myanmar crisis, including through engagement with various stakeholders, development of a comprehensive international strategy, and extension of ASEAN’s mandate.
