Professor Andrew Lang

Professor Andrew Lang is Professor of International Law and Global Governance at the School of Law, University of Edinburgh. From February 2024, Andrew will be acting Principal Investigator of PeaceRep for a period of 12 months to cover Executive Director Christine Bell’s leave of absence. Professor Lang’s scholarship focusses on the institutions and rules of global economic governance, particularly as they have evolved since the end of the Cold In that context, he has been centrally concerned with examining and understanding the grand institution-building projects which characterised post-Cold War liberalism: its success and failures, the role of law and legal expertise in its development, and its contemporary reconfiguration in light of global instabilities. His current projects include an account of the relationship between global economic governance and the propagation of highly reflexive and variegated forms of the regulatory state from the 1980s onwards, and an assessment of the contemporary strategies, programmes and techniques of government currently emerging at the global level under the rubrics of ‘crisis’, ‘resilience’ and ‘agility’.
