Dr Mateja Peter
Dr Mateja Peter is a member of PeaceRep’s Senior Leadership Team, and PeaceRep Global Fragmentation Lead. Mateja is Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of St Andrews and Executive Director of the Scottish Council on Global Affairs. After completing her PhD at the University of Cambridge and before joining St Andrews, she held research positions at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), United States Institute for Peace (USIP), German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), and the Norwegian Institute for Defense Studies (IFS).
Mateja’s research focuses on the role of third-party interveners (states and international organisations) in contemporary peace processes and post-conflict reconstruction. She studies how the changing global order is impacting conflict management practices and norms, from UN peacekeeping to international mediation. As part of PeaceRep, Mateja is leading an interdisciplinary team at Universities of St Andrews and Edinburgh rethinking policy ideas around contemporary international mediation. The team is building a novel dataset of third-party mediators and devising interactive visualisation tools for researchers and practitioners.
