PeaceRep is delighted to congratulate Professor Louise Mallinder on her well-deserved appointment to the Royal Irish Academy.
Professor Mallinder is a member of PeaceRep’s Steering Committee and Research Team, and the creator of the Amnesties, Conflict and Peace Agreement dataset. She is one of just 28 newly elected members of the Academy.
Elected by their peers, this honour is reserved for individuals who have brought international acclaim to Ireland through their research.
Professor Louise Mallinder, PeaceRep Steering Committee member, joins Royal Irish Academy
Professor Louise Mallinder, member of PeaceRep’s Steering Committee and Research Team based at Queens University Belfast, was officially admitted to the Royal Irish Academy on 28 May 2024 at a special ceremony in Dublin.
As one of just 28 new members admitted to the Academy, Professor Mallinder was elected in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the humanities and social sciences.
A Professor of Law at Queens University Belfast, Professor Mallinder is also the Deputy Director at the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Justice and Security. Recognised as a globally leading figure in the study of Human Rights Law, her work with PeaceRep focuses primarily on amnesty laws and transitional justice. She is also the creator of the Amnesties, Conflict and Peace Agreement (ACPA) dataset, which forms part of the PA-X suite of datasets and digital tools.
The Royal Irish Academy was established in 1785 and honours Ireland’s leading scholars. Members are formally admitted during a ceremony where they pledge the Member’s Declaration of Obligations and sign the Roll Book of Members. Past members include Nobel laureates such as WB Yeats and Seamus Heaney.
The 28 newly elected members include Dr Ruth Patterson, the first woman to be ordained in Ireland, and Professor Brendan Kelly, who has published extensively on Ireland’s history of institutional confinement.
